The Lights Are Up!

Well, the Christmas season is off to a good start. With the help of my son, my outside Christmas lights and decorations are complete!! Hubby set up the Christmas tree and its ready for me to decorate. The little Christmas villages are looking good along with my usual snowmen and Santa decorations. My favorite part of Christmas - decorations! What's your favorite?

from Junk to Cards

There are many ways to save on the cost of making your own greeting cards. I'll be posting ideas in this section each week.

My favorite cost cutter (right now:o) is using buttons! Buttons are a fun way to add dimension to your greeting cards. I have a large jar on my craft desk for collecting them - buttons from discarded clothing, the extra buttons you get with new clothing and buttons I purchase at flea markets, garage sales, etc. I'm crazy for buttons!!! PS - sometimes I actually use one as intended to replace a lost one on a shirt:o)

Tool Box and Gadgets

As with most crafts, those of us new to crafting will soon learn the tools and gadgets you will need and those that are just a waste of money. I hope by sharing my experiences you'll save some time and money.

I look forward to hearing about your favorite tool or gadget and maybe the ones that aren't so great!

To get us started - I recently purchased a corner punch to use in making my greeting cards. This was a 3 in one design by Fiskars - bad design! If you have any problems with your hands (arthritis, etc.) you might want to avoid this tool. I actually had to stand up and push down really hard to get the tool to cut through the cardstock! YIKES!

February 2011 - Small Opportunties

Whew! I've finally completed the Valentine's basket that I'm donating to the Chamber of Commerce's Winter Ball and Fundraiser. The basket contains a handmade Valentine's card (of course), a small box of Russell Stover chocolates, a diamond accented 18k gold bracelet (which I got on sale for a really silly price) and a glass block decorative light. The light was a lot of fun to make as I used the new glass etching techinque that I learned at class.

The auction is February 12 and I can't wait to see how much the basket of goodies goes for - valued at $120.00
